Ocean Freight Forwarding

Ship Your Goods by Sea

A cost-effective way to move large, heavy or bulky cargo between countries.

How Ocean Freight Works

Your goods are packed into a shipping container, loaded onto a vessel and carried to the destination port. They are then cleared through customs and delivered to you, or made ready for collection.

We arrange each step for you: booking space on the ship, preparing the documents, clearing customs and organising delivery. Sea freight takes longer than air, but it usually costs much less for big or heavy loads.

Full Container or Shared Container?

There are two main ways to ship by sea. We will recommend the one that works out best for your cargo.

  • Full container load (FCL)

You book a whole container just for your goods. Best for large shipments, or when you prefer your goods not to share space.

  • Less than container load (LCL)

Your goods share a container with other people’s cargo, and you pay for the space you use. Best for smaller shipments.

What We Take Care Of

  • Booking space with the shipping line
  • Collection from your door and transport to the port, if you need it
  • Preparing the shipping documents, including the bill of lading
  • Customs clearance when your goods arrive
  • Storage, if your goods need to wait before or after shipping
  • Delivery to your final address

What We Need From You

To give you a quote, tell us:

  • What you are shipping and how it is packed (cartons, pallets, crates)
  • How much — the number of packages, weight and size (estimates are fine)
  • From where and to where — town, city or port
  • When the goods will be ready

Shipping something unusual, such as a vehicle, machinery or hazardous goods? Let us know at the start, as special rules may apply.

Ocean Freight FAQs

How long does shipping by sea take?

It depends on the route and the shipping line’s schedule. We will give you the expected sailing and arrival dates with your quote.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the size and weight of your cargo, whether you use a full or shared container, the route, and the extra services you need, such as clearing and delivery. Send us your details for an exact quote.

Which documents do I need?

Usually a commercial invoice, a packing list and a bill of lading. Some goods also need permits or certificates. We will tell you what applies and help you prepare it — see shipment documentation.

Can you ship vehicles?

Yes. We help clients ship and clear vehicles. See our vehicle import invoice example for the kinds of charges involved.
